Rubber lover!
« on: July 13, 2010, 01:54:58 PM »
Ooops wrong forum!  :rofl

i am starting to love my tyres, i don't mean  :sma i just mean love and trust them. the tyre on the bike when i bought it was nearly on the limit and my faith was never there, but now i'm all scrubbed in with the new one i'm starting to believe in them more and more.
well that was until i ventured out into the sh*t ,cold, grey, wet morning today! my first proper run to work on a wet day and it just sucked all my confidence!!  :sweat had to go newport - barry - bristol and i was very nervous. Then as i was plodding along, i remebered reading somewhere that most riders don't lean more than 30 degrees on a wet day? not sure how true this is (it's on the internet though it must be true!!), but i'd been trying to keep the bike as upright as possible - probably look a right tit!! then the more i thought about it, the more i started to think i probably don't even do 30 degrees in the dry  :rofl as i started to get used to not seeing out the visor and avoiding  :handjob driving without their lights on in silver cars the more my confidence started to come back. Obviously, i was still super cautious, but i started going slightly quicker than the 5 yr old cyling to school along side me!

I'm sure it comes with experience, but it's difficult knowing how to ride in the wet when i've never done it before. it's *97% effective so i should trust the rubber!

The more miles you do in the wet,the greater your confidence. Its all about confidence.try to avoid manhole covers, leaves, white lines etc,but as you do sometimes hit them by mistake, just throttle off.
It`s your front wheel that steers,so most of the time your rear will follow.just make sure it doesn`t lose grip.
after a few more trips to B :cyaristol, you will smell DIESEL on the roads, and will be ready for all the obstacles a Motorcyclist has to put up with during his trip.
Now wheres my Car keys?

I think I was lucky that I had my bike in Decemeber, so I learnt to ride in the rain and snow.

As Terry said, its all in the confidence.  Just try and be as smooth as possible, slow down a little and avoid slippery things  :tup2

I'm sure it'll come with experience (I'm still learning -only had a big bike for a year). Riding in the wet isn't so bad if  1) you have good waterproofs, and  2) you don't get too tense.  It helps if other road users keep away from you, too!
So relax a bit, and enjoy the rain as a "learning experience".

I did my CBT in the rain along with training for Mod 1 and the test itself, two days training for Mod 2 in pouring rain but it stopped for the test! I think I ride better in the wet than in the dry!  :rofl
