PASSED!!
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:11:33 PM »
Bit of a late post, I passed my mod2 on Friday woohoo!! No more L-plates on me 125!

The examiner said it was one of the best rides he'd seen too, and he didn't give me any minors. Apparently, it was nice to see someone "making some progress" in their test, a compliment if ever I heard one! :scooter Now just have to pass mod2 again on a big bike to ride something a bit more tasty  :thumbsup

Nearly made it to the big bike club now! Question is, do I get myself a 250 to tide me over, or wait to get a nice Suzuki 650 or something? My new motorway route into work is a bit of a pain on the 125... Cruising speed is 55-60 max without straining the poor thing  :tt

:old   Way to go mate, well done    :tup2
Changing bikes, I reckon you need something more powerful than a 125 for motor way riding, if you can afford to go to a 250 now and move to something bigger then I would say thats the way to go.   Good luck and safe riding.     :thumbsup

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

Thankees all! Hmm I have been thinking of a ninja250 for the motorway... But then again I want to get on something like an SV650 as soon as possible! ^_^ I'll probably stick it out for now, see how long I can put up with my lil bike's screams! (Thank god for earplugs!)

Why not look for an SV650 and restrict it? Redbulls missus has one and it doesn't hang about, there's no need for you to do Mod 2 on a 500 then either, just stick out the restriction for 2yrs.

Go with yoyo's advice...i had a restricted 650 bandit, will do all the legal speed limits  (and over), good presence on the road and when the restricter is removed   :scooter like a new bike  :thumbsup

Congrats dude. Pillion legal and all now!

One question, what's all this 'mod 2' stuff about? Only been 12 years since I done my test but has lots changed?

For me, passed when I was 18, de-restricted by 20 - end of!

Cheers all!

Aye I've been seriously thinking about an sv650 - I've heard they restrict very well, being a v-twin! Trouble is, I've already ridden my dad's 650 bandit... I want that power!!  :thumbsup lol. Seriously though, I know in myself that I'm not quiiite mature enough to handle that sort of power, so perhaps a restricted sv is the way to go  :scratch

What do you guys think of something like this? Looks pretty tidy, and ready to go too! Anything in particular to look out for on those SV's?

Oh and Little Gremlin, I had to pass my motorbike theory test, and "Mod1" and "Mod2" of the bike test on a 125, so I can ride up to 33bhp. I can take another "Mod2" test on a big bike now to ride anything, or wait the 2 years  :wheelchair

What a load of nonsense... So, these days, you can do your CBT and go lone riding to learn the ways of the road, then you have to do TWO parts to the test to ride upto 33hp, then a THIRD test to ride unrestricted (age dependant I'm guessing)!

Whereas, in a car, you can have someone sit next to you for a few weeks, an examiner for 45 mins and then go out and by a 500hp BMW or something silly???

Something not quite right there, they conspiring against bikes?

Anyway, hears what I did. Done ONE test at 18, passed, done some research as to how certain bikes are restricted, bought one that was to be CARB restricted, rode it home and popped the restrictors out (ooh, naughty).

That way, it would've been an ideal 'seller on' for someone else new to their full license and the certificate to go with it ;)

Problem was, I ended up snapping the crank  :thumb_down

But an idea for you never-the-less!

Aye, including theory I would have done 4 tests for my motorcycle license if I do a further big bike test, and only 2 for my car  :thumb_down

*EDIT* 5 tests if you include the CBT!

Aye a nice idea to be sure, but I'll be looking for something with fuel injection and an ECU if possible, as I gather they are less maintenance and more efficient than a carb'd bike :wheelchair I struggled for 20 mins trying to start mym dad's bike the other week, before I descovered that it was a bit chilly and I had to put the "choke" on  :surrender I'd rather the computer work that out for me while I get on with riding hehe :tt

Out of interest though, what's the difference between having a carb restrictor and throttle restrictor, is it easier to pop out the carb washers?  :bandana

Well done on pasing part one  :thumbsup

As YoYo said, my Mrs had the same dilema - 250cc or restricted 'bigger' bike

in the end got a 05reg SV650 and had a restricter kit fitted.

Unless your a spanner god, don't try and feck about with the kit, it's quite interwoven into the bikes engine systems and to be honest even restricted it's a handful of fun!

Ninja 250 is a great bike, but you may well find your ready to have a bit more oompf down the line and you'll need to get a new bike instead of keeping one you know and de-restricting it...

Not to sure about exhaust/ throttle/ electrical restrictions, never looked at any.

Carb restriction is just that, washers restricting the flow of fuel! Just pop carbs off and pop the washers out - done!

I know a lot of boys getting a lot of trouble with their 'electrical' bikes, myself, stick to what I know - carbs can be easily maintianed, but so can injectors... if you have the money :scratch

A bike is as good as it's owner, learn to get your hands dirty and know your way around and they'll run as beautiful as anything new on the road!!

Bandit 6's are cheap to buy, damn reliable and good on the insurance and have plenty of fun, even for the more experienced thrill seeker - I've had two and would probably get a third if finances were there...

Not a plug but a quick look for you to see if you're interested in what my ride is at the mo...
