All joking aside, when I was but a lad  :old it was common to start off on a 125, then move up to a 250 then a 500, 750 etc. It was along haul but I've got a suspicion I would not be here now if I'd jumped straight onto a gixxer from a 125.

Get your backside on a few bikes down the shop and see what feels comfortable. See if you can turn it round. Judge if there is so much power that you won't be able to control it.

Have a word with the salesman and ask how many people he's seen go straight across the road on a brand new bike, into the lamp-post opposite.

With a bit of luck he'll be bright enough to want to see you back to invest again in your next bike (unless he's got shares in a florist).

Passed das, got myself an xj6-s tiz a beauty of a bike but then i've only ridden a cg125 or a gs500e before it :)

It looks beautiful as far as im concerned, sure there is a pic of mine on ere somewhere. While below 4k revs it's docile but give it some beans (6-11k) and it goes from 30 to "sorry officer" in stupid quick time. It's no sports bike but it's enough for me.

I will just add to this whether it be relevent or not I dunno.

but my friend was up from Southampton the weekend. She has owned a GSR 600, and currently has a Gixer600. Shes no racer, and takes her time and rides safe.  I've seen her riding a few times and gave her a go of the Triumph when I had it, which she enjoyed.  Last weekend I gave her a go of the R1. Her first time on a thou.  She took it steady, gave it a blip on the motorway. And loved it.

Her words when she got off were 'That is so easy to ride, I want one'......... Goes to show, as long as you use your head and ride within your ability and comfort zone, any bike can suit you, no matter what its peak power is........ Its whether the individual knows his or her skill level, and can use their head not to push out of their zone.

 :i_agree

there are no bikes built nowadays that are unridable due to massive power.
In some cases 1000cc bikes are actually easier to ride as the torque means you aren't constantly changing gear and can concentrate on cornering more.

It's all in the right wrist

Yes I hear you but as I have never yet felt the full force of a large cc bike I want to stay within my own comfort zone and learn something first before getting a full on sports bike. Anyhow passed my theory test today, what a con that was. £31 for testing common sense.

What about a Gladys Gladius 650. The used prices look tempting.

'Cept everyone calls it Gladis   :censored   :tt  :tt  :tt
Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!
