Back Protector
« on: February 21, 2011, 04:11:55 PM »
Looking to get a back protector to wear under my leathers. Just wondering if anyone has any idea on which is best to get? i.e. good protection and also comfort? especially for the summer months.
:cheers

Cheers for the suggestion. That one certainly has good reviews and the price is around about what I was expecting. Would like to try this on before ordering so a trip down to M&P will probably done shortly. £86 they want for it in there. A full £11 more than that link you sent.

Im also looking at the Knox Aegis (as it's in Hein Gericke) will try that on as well and compare.

While im at it Ill try a Dainese one even if they are £30 more. Probably worth it to protect me spine if its a good fit and offers better protection etc.

Thinking about it... :scratch... is it even essential to try on a back protector or just measure up and take the plunge?

If you can try it on, its got to be better, some may suit you better than others, ie better fit , take your jacket/leathers with you too  :thumbsup

Hi mate I got a forcefield 2 full length back protector.
I bought for less than £85 it has a honey combed backing so no sweat on your back.
It conforms to your shape and is very very comfortable and passed alll the impact tests. C.E. aproved :thumbsup
alsowas recommended by Superbike and ride mags for best in test 2 years ago. :cheers

I use it on track days and when having a play on my own over Penderyn setting up suspension. :devil

You wont go wrong :scooter

I've always gone the Knox route, but that's just personal preference. I've taken a few heavy falls with these (inside Texport & Hein Gericke leathers), with no lasting damage... BUT FORTUNATELY, NO DIRECT SPINAL IMPACTS!

Ride Magazine usually do a pretty through test and assessment exercise on this sort of kit, maybe worth checking their webbie out?

As others have said... you will need to try a few for size tho... the difference in fit as quite startling, manufacturer-manufacturer as it is for almost everything bike-related.

Peace!

I got mine from eBay for £15.
I've used it for the last 4 years and it's a sturdy bit of kit.  comes with the straps for shoulders and waist too.

They do different sizes.

Luckily the place that sells them is based in Cardiff

So a quick ebay message to them or a phone call and you could probably pop down to try one on.
Then buy it there and save a fiver postage too  :tup2

Interesting. Might be worth having a look, thanks Pope. Only thing I'm thinking is does cheap price = cheap quality = poor protection. If I had an off would I regret not spending the cash, hmmmmm all very tricky...

At the end of the day a back protector is a piece of high density foam with a hard plastic outer covering.
As long as the fit is correct it will do its job.

I've always thought the Knox and forcefield stuff is way overpriced at £85 or so.

Try on the ebay one if you get chance and decide then. All very similarly made.

I do enough trackdays and I trust it to protect me  :tup2

I got a Dainese one, and I'm still walking.   :thumbsup

M&P's should be able to price match as they can give at least 10% off the initial price. As its nearly £90, then they should be able to knock at least a tenner off.
