An observations question
« on: May 16, 2011, 08:02:32 PM »
You're riding along an unfamiliar country road and you see a warning sign for a series of bends. On the road, you see the big white word 'SLOW'.

You ease off the accelerator and reduce speed as you enter the bend section. As you proceed, accelerating gently around the curves and avoiding the damp patches under the trees, you see the clues that the road is opening up and it's safe to consider turning up the volume again.

Question: What clues were you were looking for?

No speed cameras? :scratch

:fishing

Could be many things, solid white line changing to a broken white line. The vanishing point, other vehicles ahead of you speeding up. Pope passing you with his front wheel in the air!! :rofl

er....clues.......the lack of grey headed old farts on sports bikes that over-cooked it and ended up in the hedge on the far side of the bend , causing an interesting and extremely colourfull sculpture of plastic and metal, causing you to slow down and stare at the roadside collage ?......

Yes, could be any or all of those things. But you're missing something else. A brief overtaking opportunity in an extended section of bends does not indicate open road - it could close suddenly back down and catch Pope unicycling frantically round the next corner. :nono

Why would you be on the wrong side of the road coming to a bend???????
If your going to overtake then do it and dont fanny about doing it then there'll be no issues will there?
I've been behind riders that will overtake one car nice and steady ready to slot in behind the next car whereas i'm ready to do two cars and get back in in plenty of time for the next corner  :thumbsup

Could it be the back end of the warning sign on the other side of the road. For the benefit of oncoming traffic?

Why 'turn the volume down' for the bends?  It's people that slow right down to a crawl for bends and then nail it on the straights that cause half the problem.   :scratch

Yes but we all have to learn how to get around bends to start with
