Advice needed generator cover.
« on: June 26, 2010, 09:36:40 PM »
Does any one know if the generator casing on a GSX650F 2009 is steel or aluminium ?

Misses had a slight mis-footing today getting off (first ride) and grabbed me, weight was too much and down she went.  Damn that's a heavy bike!  Misses has a fine bruise as a momento  :oops

Luckily it was soft tarmac, so it's just taken off the top layer of paint just visibile on the bottom of the casing as you look at it, but mostly the corner edge underside, not scratched or cracked. My thinking is just buy some clear laquere and give it a small coat to stop any corrosion or rusting.

Thanks for any advice.......

I don't know the answer sorry. But I don't think Aluminium is magnetic  :scratch so could try a magnet, if you got one.

Sorry not the answer your looking for.

Cheers nero, thought about that today, but being as it's the generator there's probably a big magnet inside anyway.  I think it's steel.

But Im gonna just laquer it ( to stop it rusting) and get some thick black tape and put it over the bottom.  Just incase it falls on that side again!  :shocked

Thanks for the reply anyway.  Just miffed cause its on a 10 plate.  Suppose I wont be the firstt or last.  But glad anyway the misses was ok apart from her bruise   :my_ball
