Radiator repair
« on: July 28, 2010, 05:43:41 PM »
Got home today and noticed some steam coming from the front of the radiator.
Doesn't seem to be losing much water but wondered what the best way to try to fix it is.

Anybody used any of the radweld type products or tried jbweld or similar.

Prices for new are crazy and I'm not convinced that 2nd hand would be any better than the one i've got.

CBR600FP if anyone has got one going spare they want to get rid of and I can't fix this one.

Hi C
Might be worth a trip up to Rickett Radiators. They've sorted me a few times.

for a permanent repair get the rad recored, cheaper than buying a new one and guaranteed a fix where rad weld is only a temporary repair

Got some K-seal. Like rad-weld but supposed to be a permanent fix. Got engine up to normal temp then pouredit in and went for a run.  Still leaking after about 10 minutes but within half hour no leak at all.
Will keep an eye on it, but they give a lifetime guarantee on leaks fixed.
Cuffer, Ricketts didn't even cross my mind. Been there for car rad but didn't think about them for the bike.

The problem with stuff like rad weld and equivalent is that it also sticks to the sides of the waterways in the engine and does tend to reduce the water flow which could make the bike run hotter , I'd get to ricketts and get it fixed then flush the system if it was my bike m8 ..
