frozen locks
« on: February 03, 2012, 01:35:53 PM »
I havn't used the Tiger for over a week now, ignition barrel frozen internally so the mechanism wouldn't allow the key to go fully in, WD40 sorted that one out. got most of the security lock off all bar one. lock frozen solid cant even get the key in 1/3 of way.

so i have sprayed it with WD40 and i will leave it for a few hours. if this doesn't work any ideas. problen is, it is Thatcham approved. could i heat it up with a hot gun?

Think the Tiger might have been wet when I put it away

I would probably use boiling water, so if this is a really bad way of doing it then please correct me before I do do it  :rofl :rofl

Haven't seen my bike for 4 weeks so I'll go and check on him tomorrow to see if he's still alive  :rofl :rofl

Hehe, no, probably luke-warm water? Give it a go, can't hurt to try! if it's that cold then I wouldn't bother getting the bike out anyway  :rofl

tried heating the key with a lighter, no luck so i will go and check if the WD40 has done something or nothing. had the bike running in the shed today, condensation came of the bike. i got the cover back on it too. but the shed is freezing in there.

I just use a squirt of De-Icer.

But if your posh you could buy one of those heated key things, cost around £3.00.

Worth a regular squirt of WD40 on all locks.
