Interesting replies here.

A bottle of scottoil should last 4-5k so the person who has a bottle last a year hardly rides or isn't lubing their chain enough.

Motorcycle chains are made of uncoated steel, of course it will corrode if left in humid conditions for several months this is Wales afterall so it never stops raining.

Chain waxes are crap. Ask any rider who rides for 20K+ a year and none of them use chain wax because it is crap. We use either Scttoilers with their inherent problems (and there are a lot) or chain lube like Rock Oil as it works.

The chap who pointed out air temperature affects scottoilers is perfectly correct, Especially around this time of year they need constant adjustment assuming you ride everyday as a 10+ degree change i temperatures severly affects oil viscosity. to the point they just dump their oil when they warm up.

Chains need lubing approx every 100miles and often more if it is wet, note comment on Wales weather above.

PJ1 lube is my preferred choice,  does not fling and gives lasting protection.

What about for your chain?  :rofl

Sharp,  fair play to you.   :rofl

I used to use the engine to keep the wheel turning, but have since read about too many missing fingers to do this again!  :surrender

Yup that's a big no no, ask Mike DaBike, he's now a couple of inches shorter on a couple of fingers!  :shocked
