Advice needed!
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:50:49 AM »
Not sure if this is right section but here goes.

I have been riding for about 13 years, started on a moped, moved to Honda H100, NS125, GS125 and Finally my pride and Joy CA125 rebel.

The time has come for me to step it up a little and I am pretty much ready to buy something bigger, possibly a CBR400

My issue is after riding small machines for so long the thought of something bigger is a bit daunting, the local bike test place will give me a free few hours assessment on a 500 but I kinda think if I get on something bigger ill drop it or something stupid. Most of you guys ride bigger machines so do me a favour set my mind at ease without mocking me for being a namby pamby lol.

My main concern is im 5'10 and about 10 stone so not the biggest of chaps (except naked but that's not for this forums haha)

CBR400 would be fine.
low seat height and not enough power to get you into trouble really but still with capable handling and brakes

I've ridden a mates' CBR400 and loved it.  Even if you gas it hard in first gear there's not enough power to wheelie or flip it so nothing to worry about
And as for weight, they don't weight much more than a 125 anyway

I found that it was easier to ride a bigger (600) bike than the 125. But that maybe just me? Plus I don't weigh 10st unfortunately.

Come and try one of my 600s for size. Its all about confidence.Smaller bikes are lighter, etc, but don`t give you the feel of stability and confidence like the bigger bikes. If you consider tyres, brakes, steering etc riding a larger capacity bike is more confidence inspiring.I will take you out for an hour if you like, after that you will be a changed man.....but please come dressed! :thumbsup

You should be fine, i'm lucky if I get to 5'9" with big hair, my zx6r is my fist bike, anything arond a 500 or 600 you shouldnt have a problem with. It will proobably be more comfortabel for you to get a hornet 600 or something. You would have no problem on them.
As soon as you have a go on the 500 at the test place youl think that was a peice of piss. because the guys on here arent saying it to be macho, they are easier to ride than the 125's

Think wedge has come to realize that the Daytona is the village bicycle.

My memory of getting on new bikes was it is easy to get on a bigger bike but a little harder rideding something smaller than you are used to :thumb_up

as been said i found the bigger bikes easier to ride than the 125's anyway, 400's are tiny so you should be fine,
