Puncture kits
« on: March 06, 2011, 10:23:29 AM »
Morning all. Being a firm believer in being prepared( must have something to do with being a scout in a former life lol) I wondered if anyone carries an emergency puncture repair to tide over til u can get to a garage. Something like tireweld. Having never used anything like that before, I wonder how good and safe they are to use, and if they ruin the tyre inside of not.

Tyreweld spreads all over the rim & fitters will charge extra for getting rid of it while changing the tyre

But you have to weigh up the pros & cons

I once used some Motul tyre weld as a temporary fix and it spilled out of the tyre all over the swingarm.

Nothing short of shotblasting would shift the stuff  :eek

I wrote a letter to Motul to complain and heard nothing.  WANKERS  :handjob

the product is shite

Don't have a repair, but I should get one. Out with Randell and a few other's from work a while ago and he had a puncture. And lucky enough he had a repair kit, marvelous piece of kit. Within 10mins we were on are way. Ever since I think to myself I should get one of those, but has yet I have not.

Finally bought one, it's the weldtite tubeless one.

I have put it in the draw in garage so I know where it is. :tup2

I use GOOP in the tyre, it has saved me a few times, easy to put into the tyre, I never had pay extra when it comes to changing the tyre.

I have some sort of sealant in my tyres.
I also have a tyre repair kit which is very useful.
M&P now have an excellent tyre repair kit.

DO NOT use any stuff in a can such as Holts tyre weld etc. Worst than useless.

I carry a can of tyre weld from LIDL under my seat.  it's meant for push bikes but it fixed my Mille last month and got me home.

I always change my tyre asap if it gets a puncture and never got charged extra for the new tyres fitted.

The puncture kits with the mushroom shaped plugs are excellent (the ones with rubber strips really aren't). Perfect for sorting simple screw holes etc on the main tread (wouldn't trust the same out towards the shoulders or on the sidewall).

They say only up to 50mph and get fixed asap after using, but my last tyre did more than 1,000 miles after the first one and was changed with 2 plugs in it in the end, I certainly didn't stick to 50mph either :) Lots of similar comments on other forums.
