Aprilia Shiver 750 - Luggage
« on: January 09, 2012, 04:08:55 PM »
Hi all!

I'm in a pickle...Had the bike just under a month now.  Myself and a buddy of mine are looking to head down to the Pyrenees mountains (Mid July - August - 3 weeks).
I have been looking for some Panniers for the Shiver, although, due to the exhaust coming up the back end, I have some people telling me it will just melt the straps/fittings, and I have other people telling me that it would be fine.

I have looked at the Aprilia specific fittings and so on, although they are just stupidly overpriced.  Preferably after-market and soft luggage.

I am totally naive to all this and have no experience what-so-ever, so I am wondering if you 'more experienced' lot, know of anything or have any solutions?  :banghead

Cheers all  :thumbsup

Hi, I have a BMW Softbag for sale.  This a brilliant hard-based 50 litre bag in silver colour that will fit onto a seat or rack.  I bought it new last year and used it on a trip to Aragon in Spain.  Was perfect, google it and check it out or pm me with your email address and I will send some pics if you are interested.

for this model of bike (wide underseat exhausts)

Thanks for the offer mate, although I'm unsure if it would fit securely? I'm totally skint after Christmas so I'll have to wait till the end of the month :thumb_down.  I'll do a little research about it first, if It can fit, I'll be knocking :)

all Greek to me TBH   :rofl

actually,
I can see the benefit of side paniers .... and I used to go touring fully loaded up with hard luggage, panners and top box, plus tank bag .. and more! (strapped on) ... but think what you really want .. nowadays personally, I would go for `travel light` .. yes the weight is low down with side panniers, but they will be very wide on that bike .. and will u want them when u come home?
personally i would go for top box or luggage rack and soft luggage .. as this is not a full tourer.. .. ok its a bit top heavy, but u can off load at the camp site and they go trawling the bends of the Pyrennees with a light bike
if u wan to go full touring mode .. get a tourer.. is my opinion
but its all down to you and what you want in the end .. my opinion is only my opinion

The GiviT770 racking system seems pretty legit! Although I went to SWSB and they showed me the 'SW-Motech'.  Such a good Piece of kit too!

Hi BURNS..(LLOYD)?  Nearly bought the shiver last year,,(damn bloody good looking and performing bike) alas I could not quite stretch the budget that far, (u lucky bugga, neva have kids then get divorced).LOL...
The bike I was gonna have ws from GT's port talbot and it had the sw motech full luggage system on it.. Really sweet looking package I must say, However it is pricey.. You need to weigh up the odds, u gonna keep the bike for a few years and do lots of touring? (if not give me first refusal)... If not, Ireland 1495 gear is sound.. Touratech very good make.. Not sure if you know but they got a shop in Ystradgwnlais,swansea..pop down an see them, nice little bimble for you.. You heading right way.. Do lots of research..

Lloyd it is mate  :thumb_up
I was looking at it today in South Wales Super bikes (SWMOTECH tail bag).  It was a perfect fit!  I spoke to, Michael (Ireland1495) on the phone earlier and he offered them to me then.  Although If I do go for them, I'll have to install some kind of racking system that will prevent the panniers from being near the under-seat exhaust - Which I am not keen on doing.  I think (At the moment) I am heading towards a SW Motech Tail bag with a easy-lock tank back and - dare I say it - a Backpack.
Thanks for your advise, you all have been very helpful.  As you have said HammerHead, I just have to keep researching  :banghead
