newbie, Cardiff, Learner, Yamaha
« on: July 28, 2011, 02:58:20 PM »
Dear all
I hope this is the right way to say hello to the community of bikers here. I passed my theory test about a month ago, went through CBT with 1stclassrider Whitchurch about two weeks back, purchased the necessities last Tuesday (Bevans at Hadfield Rd) and got a second hand bike. And now I realised it is not as simple as I thought it would be. If there's any biker in Cardiff that could give me some tips for module 1 or go for a ride out I would be grateful.
Regards
Tom

Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

Well i took Tom who is Polish by the way, for a bimble on Sunday met at 10.30 Mcdonalds Coryton, the plan was to go to abergavenny via Caerphilly Pontypool and so on, but unfortunately as we got the last but one roundabout on the link road we found the bloody road closed GRRR.

So we headed back to the Caerphilly and headed of through Newport to  Cwmbran (where Tom thought i was taking him on the M4) then on to Abergavenny.

Quick slurps at the bus station, while Tom got over the shock of seeing so many bikes,  then a bit of maintenance on Toms Yamaha, as the clutch lever had no slack,  causing it to slip, then off to Brecon and home.

A nice easy ride makes a nice change to ride slow every now and again.

Quick note: I think he could do with having his clutch cable oiled anyone here help him out..

Ps Tom is a very competant rider so should fit in well on rideouts

Well done on taking him out Cheaps, I met a couple of Welsh Bikers yesterday for a bimble around a couple of test routes in Swansea and you are right it's nice to have a sensible paced ride now and again, maybe we need to do a few more "learner" ride outs. I'm sure Trafford and a couple of the other experienced riders would be happy to give feedback etc.

:thumb_up Great idea on learner ride-outs they need to build up their confidence sensibly.   My son has just passed jis test last month and purchased a Suzuki SV650 so i know he would welcome that support, and before you say it no I cant take him out because I don't have a bike at the mo but working on that ie lottery win lol..

We should have a few one to ones every now and again...

The technique i used, was to follow for a few miles acting as block, then when you have an idea of the sort of rider your dealing with pull in front and lead.

OR pull them over for a chat...
