Welcome Fatboy! I used to live in Old Colwyn but am now in Pembrokeshire. I ride a Bandit 1200 and I love it. Cheap and easy to maintain and to modify to your own specifications. I'm happy to help if I can.
If it hangs - pull it!

Try lots if you can ..what suits one will not always be good for all .. Just cause a frined loves one bike doesn't mean you will ...riding postion ect .. so try as many as you can before you splash the cash :thumbsup
Bikes don't leak oil',.... they mark their territory :o)           Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight. Growing old is manditory... but growing up...well that my friends...is OPTIONAL!

I was down with yanto recently getting a bit of work done on my bike.  If you're looking for something comfy with a bit of oomph that is your bike.  It has been lowered in weight by quite a few kilos to and it looks real trick as well as performs.   :tup2

My first big bike though was a bandit 1200 and it is still the favourite bike I've ever owned.
Yes, everyone else maybe melting to death on the roads but not us! Because we have a car with hair conditioner! I mean what in the name of sanity did they think we want it for? To make sure that the roof rack is more shiny and managable?

Aye insurance on a 1200 will be mental probably for a new rider.

Get yourself down a dealers and go sit on a whole bunch of them. Take a friend with you so he can help balance the bike while you test the fit of the footpegs and geometry. Sitting astride one is different to the position you take when riding.
