the date for the run will be

21/8/11 (Sunday)

that is the third weekend in august


from Pontypool canal basin to yo old ferrie inn Symonds yat west hr9 6bi
With a stop off in Tintern

Tickets will be £5 each
including free raffle ticket
ticks are available on day

Raffle to be held at end of day

Food will be available at start and finish

riders of abilities welcome

children welcome

Stage one Foundry Road Pontypool to Tintern Abbey

•   Distance for stage one is 19.3 miles
•   Time 1 to 2 hours
•   Surface road condition is average
•   Traffic light to moderate

Stage one will leave the coffee shop car park Pontypool and take the riders up through Little Mill, Usk and then through Liansoy and Trelleck Grange, finishing at Tintern Abbey .


The riders will depart at approximately 10am onto Foundry Road, at the end of Foundry Road they will turn right onto Usk Road, stay on Usk Road, at the mini roundabout on Usk Road they will go straight through continuing on Usk Road, at the second roundabout turn left onto the A4042 to Abergavenny, at the next roundabout continue straight second exit A4042 Abergavenny Road. After this roundabout there will be a right turn sign posted Little Mill, Usk this is where the riders will turn right onto the Little Mill/Usk road A472 they will stay on this road until they come into Usk where they will turn left over a bridge into Usk Village and carry on through Usk Village on the A472, when coming out of Usk Village they will take the third left B4235 they will stay on this road where they will come to a cross roads and turn right at that crossroads sign posted Liansoy and Chepstow (Chepstow Road) at the next junction they will turn right onto the B4293 sign posted Devauden and Chepstow, they will then take the  first left off the B4293 sign posted Trelleck Grange and Tintern the riders will stay on this road which will take them down through the forest past the Cheery Tree Inn which will bring them into Tintern at the Royal George Pub where riders will then turn right onto the A466 onto the main Chepstow Monmouth road, after turning right they will shortly turn left into the Abbey where the riders will have a short break for approximately 30 minutes  before continuing.

Stage Two Tintern Abbey to Symonds Yat West (Ye Old Ferry Inn)

•   Distance for stage two is 16.3 miles
•   Time 1 to 1 ½ hours
•   Surface road condition is average to good
•   Traffic moderate

Stage two will take the riders along the river Wye to Monmouth then up past Ganarew to finish at Ye Old Ferry Inn Symonds Yat West.

The riders will leave Tintern Abbey at the end on the road they will turn right onto the A466 Chepstow Monmouth Road, they will follow this road for approximately 10 to 12 miles, where they will come into Monmouth, at the first roundabout adjacent to LIDLE where they will turn left sign posted Monmouth Town where they will continue over the bridge to the traffic lights where they will turn right onto the A40 sign posted Ross on Wye and Hereford. At the next roundabout the riders will go straight through taking seconded exit A40, stay on the A40 for approximately 3 miles taking the third left sigh posted Ganarew and Crockers Ash they will follow the road around to the left at the next junction (yeald signed) they will turn left , the riders will continue on this road for approximately 1 to 2 miles, at the next junction the riders will turn right , at the next roundabout the riders will take the second exit sign posted Symonds Yat West they  will follow this road which bares to the right and then left they will then take the first main left sign posted Ye Ole Ferry Inn/Ferry Lane, approximately .5 of a mile from the roundabout.

This route has been designed to accommodate all levels of riders while making this an enjoyable route through some beautiful scenery which Monmouth has to offer.
