I hate midgies- they are nasty little blighters and seem to love me-going to get a firepit for Uist this year and burn as much rubbish as I can to keep them away when sitting out at night. They say it's only the female of the species that bites-typical eh :rofl

It does a wee bit- got loads of citronella candles to go up and wear Avon skin so soft as that's got citronella in it-there's loads of heather and peaty land in Uist so they appear in gangs when you least expect it. I would like one of those midge magnets to try but way too expensive-you're talking hundreds of pounds so citronella rules for now :tup2

It looks like the trip I'm going on includes a good rant around some of the roads up there so I'm quite looking forward to it. I'm giving motorways a miss on the way up and down because I hate the fecking things. However, that will add ages onto the journey time not including the half a day I am sure to spent riding around in circles hopelessly lost!

View in South Uist
Skye on the Scottish mainland is where we get the ferry to North Uist (other route is ferry from Oban to South Uist) which is part of the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides -from there you can go to Eriskay, Stornoway Barra and links to the other islands. A lot of bikers tour there and love it-the scenery is stunning-beaches are white sand with the water being a transparent green or blue depending on the weather :thumbsup

Magic-my friend has stayed in the lodges at Tyndrum for girlie weekends and had a fantastic time-can't wait for your report-oh and to avoid midges read this:

To avoid midges, it helps to know a little about their likes and dislikes. They
like the cool indirect light of dawn and dusk, and dislike direct strong
sunlight. They like damp conditions and dislike dry conditions. And they like
still air and dislike anything above a fairly gentle breeze. All this tends to
mean that midges are less common in the middle of the day than in the mornings and
evenings; that they are rarer on exposed hills than in sheltered valleys; and
that they can be fond of woodland and forest areas. Finally, it is worth knowing
that midges prefer dark coloured clothing to light.

Oh and last but not least don't breathe as they are attracted to carbon dioxide  :rofl :rofl :rofl
